- The Civil services Examination, conducted by Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various civil services of Government of India. The civil services preliminary Examination is a qualifying test for the main examination, and then followed by a personality test (interview).
- The general studies paper II of the Civil services preliminary Examination is an aptitude test (CSAT) in which a candidate must score 33% marks to qualify and marks in this paper are not counted for writing the main examination.

- The general studies paper II of the civil services preliminary examination is a multiple choice, objective type of 200 marks. The duration of the test is of 2 hours.
- The syllabus includes Comprehension, interpersonal skills including communication skills, logical reasoning and analytical ability, decision making and problem solving, general mental ability, basic numeracy, data interpretation, data sufficiency, etc.
