XAT Facts

  • Xavier Aptitude test (XAT) is a national level pen and paper based management aptitude test. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of the XAMI. For more than 60 years XLRI has been conducting XAT at all India level to select students for management education in XAT member & associate institutes. The XAT score is being used by more than 100 institutes for the admission. Top B-Schools accepting XAT are XLRI, XIMB, LIBA, XIME, GIM, XISS, XIMR, S.P.JAIN., TAPMI, IMT, MICA, FORE, Great Lakes, etc.

XAT Pattern

  • The test consists of two parts: Part I and Part II. Part I has three sections A, B and C with 24, 21 and 27 questions respectively, i.e. a total of 72 questions. The three sections of Part I are followed by Part II with 25 GK questions and an essay. (As per XAT 2017). The questions in the four sections are in the MCQ format with 5 options each. The 3 sections A, B, C of part I are:
        1: English Language & Logical Reasoning
        2: Decision Making (Behavioral & Mathematical Decision making)
        3: Quantitative Ability
  • The time for completing the three sections and general knowledge is 210 minutes. The first three sections are to be answered in 170 minutes and General Knowledge questions & easy in 35 minutes. General Knowledge marks would be used only for the final selection and not for Shortlisting candidates for interview/GD. There are no sectional time limits; one can attempt the first 3 sections in any order.
  • All questions carry equal marks. One forth mark may be deducted for each incorrect answer. An unattempted question may result in a deduction of 0.05 mark. However, this deduction will not apply for a maximum of 12 unattempted questions. The negative marks for unattempted questions shall be deducted proportionately across the three sections.
